This “part-scavenger hunt / part-podcast / part-food crawl” experience will connect you with unique places in Washington D.C. through the eyes of Chef and Humanitarian José Andrés. Learn about real food issues confronting our communities and the ways you, too, can fight for food justice.

Participants will experience a self-guided tour of key landmarks in Washington, D.C., with audio narration by José Andrés. The kit includes the necessary supplies (and swag!) to guide you through multiple city locations.

How does it work?

You’ll be mailed a box with supplies (and swag!) to help guide you to four different DC locations that are important in José Andrés’ life journey as a chef. Plus José has created a special at-home kitchen challenge to get you cooking with love. Once you receive your kit, you’ll be off on a hunt in the city for QR codes that will link to audio of José’s story - in his own words. This adventure will give you exclusive access to free and tasty food samples, interesting places, and José’s first-hand narrative.

You’ll just need a smartphone, headphones, and comfortable shoes. Participate in this adventure when it’s convenient for you.

Involve the whole family, a group of friends, or a special someone. We recommend one box per household.

Frequently asked questions

No. A household could share a box and have a great time. But if each person wants their own swag and food samples, then you may want to purchase additional boxes.

You may walk, bike, drive, or take public transportation. All locations are Metro/Bus accessible.

We anticipate that once you arrive, each stop will take up to 30 minutes to experience. Or explore each neighborhood and make a day of it! The cooking challenge may take up to an hour.

This is a self-guided outing to complete at your own pace. However, you must complete all the challenges by January 31, 2023.

All destinations have opening/closing hours to be aware of. We shared a time guide in the kit, but please check with each location beforehand, as operating times are susceptible of change.

Yes! If your kids like exploring new places, and are interested in learning about José Andrés and food justice activism, this will be fun for the whole family. Best for ages 8 and up, but younger ones may still have fun tagging along.

You can find all the transcripts to his narration on the description of each track. Same QR code, same playlist!
