- A statement from the artist: "It is the upper torso of a youth in prayer, with an alter as his base. The prayer was, and is, an acknowledgement to God of the destruction and shame within the African American community: gangs, drugs, AIDS, and family deterioration. It was used as part of my museum's traveling exhibition and was documented in the catalog titled 'Straight at the Heart,' held in Beloit, Wisconsin."
