The Anacostia
Community Museum is the Smithsonian Institution’s cultural anchor bringing
the museum experience to communities east of the Anacostia River. The Museum
has a rich cultural texture, demonstrated through the design of the building
to its ever-changing exhibitions. The Anacostia Community Museum is a small
but mighty Museum, tucked away neatly in a community rich in cultural history.
Historic Anacostia, once the home of the infamous abolitionist, Frederick
Douglass, has some of the most beautiful views of the city sitting high above
the rest of the District.
With its many educational programs and special events, the Museum has been
called, “one of Washington, D.C.’s hidden treasures.” Located
on the scenic Fort Place parklands with wonderful picnic areas, the Museum
is adjacent to Fort Stanton Community Park which has a pool, tennis and basketball
courts, a baseball field, and a recreation room. ACM provides free parking
and is available by public transportation. For more information on public
transportation and directions, please click

The Anacostia Community Museum is the perfect venue for your next event. With
a variety of spaces to choose from, the Museum can accommodate 20 –
150 guests. ACM ’s special event spaces include a community program
room, lobby, galleries, and an outdoor terrace. Upon request, the Museum will
provide a list of caterers and other resources that work closely with the
Smithsonian and are familiar with our procedures and guidelines. The Anacostia
Community Museum has final approval in the selection of all vendors used on
the premises.
In addition, the Museum grounds are available for tented events with up to
350 guests. For information on using or reserving the grounds at Fort Place
