From the National Mall
By Metrorail to Bus
1. Note: Obtain a bus transfer before boarding the train. From the Smithsonian
Metro Station, take Metrorail (Blue or Orange Line) to L’Enfant Metro
Station, transfer to the Green Line (upper level) heading in the direction
of Anacostia, and exit at the Anacostia Metro Station. There will be two exits,
Regional and Local; take the LOCAL exit. After exiting, turn left and go to
the W2/W3 bus stop on Howard Road.
2. Transfer to W2 or W3 bus (Southeast Community Hospital-Anacostia Line) at the Anacostia Metro Station. The W2 bus runs only during AM and PM rush hours. The W3bus runs every 30 minutes between 9:30 AM-4 PM, and every 30 minutes on weekends. (To confirm bus schedule, call Metro information at 202/637-7000 or TTY 202/638-3780.) 3. W2 and W3 buses stop in front of the museum.
By Car
1. Take Independence Avenue east past the Capitol Building to 2nd Street,
SE, where it intersects Pennsylvania Avenue. Bear right onto Pennsylvania
Avenue and proceed to 11th Street, SE.
2. Turn right onto 11th Street. Proceed 4 blocks and take the up ramp to the 11th Street Bridge. Follow sign to Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Avenue, SE (left lanes).
3. Follow MLK Avenue to Morris Road (less than a mile); you will pass a Big Chair on your right. Turn left onto Morris Road and proceed up the hill past 17th Street where Morris Road becomes Erie Street. In less than 5 blocks, Erie Street will become Fort Place. Bear right at Fort Place. The museum is on the right.
From Virginia by Car
Traveling North on I-395
1. Take I-395 over the 14th Street Bridge (Rochambeau Memorial Bridge), stay
in the right-hand lanes to cross over Case Bridge (bear to the left) and proceed
on I-395 (Southeast/Southwest Freeway) to the 11th Street Bridge.
2. Cross the 11th Street Bridge and follow sign to Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Avenue, SE.
3. Follow MLK Avenue to Morris Road (less than a mile); you will pass a Big Chair on your right. Turn left onto Morris Road and proceed up the hill past 17th Street where Morris Road becomes Erie Street. In less than 5 blocks, Erie Street will become Fort Place. Bear right at Fort Place. The museum is on the right.
Traveling East on
I-495
1. Take I-495 over Woodrow Wilson Bridge (Alexandria, Virginia) to first exit
(Washington) onto North I-295.
2. Traveling north on I-295, exit at Suitland Parkway. At end of exit ramp, turn left at stop sign onto Firth Sterling Avenue. Go straight, cross Suitland Parkway at light. At Howard Road (2nd light), make a right and cross railroad tracks. (The Anacostia Metro Station will be on the right.)
3. At 2nd light, make a left onto Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Avenue, SE. Follow MLK Avenue to Morris Road. Turn right onto Morris Road and proceed up the hill past 17th Street where Morris Road becomes Erie Street. In less than 5 blocks, Erie Street will become Fort Place. Bear right at Fort Place. From Maryland by Car
Traveling South on
I-295
1. Take Howard Road exit. Bear left on exit ramp. Left turn at light onto
Howard Road. Go straight, cross railroad tracks. (The Anacostia Metro Station
will be on the right.)

1. Take Suitland Parkway exit. At end of exit ramp, turn left at stop sign
